Chloroprene Rubber has excellent resistance to oils, ozone, sunlight and aging. Low permeability to gases. Recommended for use with gasoline and non-aromatic solvents. It offers little resistance to strong oxidants and to aromatic and chlorate hydrocarbons.
Chloroprene Rubber, widely known as Neoprene, was one of the first oil resistant synthetic rubbers. However, it has only moderate resistance to petroleum based oils and fuels. It can be considered as a good general purpose rubber with an excellent balance of physical and chemical properties. It has better chemical, oil, ozone and heat resistance than natural rubber but a rather lower level of physical properties. Chloroprene tends to slowly absorb water and its electrical properties are poor. Its gas permeability is fairly low and flame resistance is excellent, chloroprene being one of the few rubbers that are self-extinguishing. Neoprene gives excellent rubber-metal bonds and good resilience. Certain grades of Neoprene may crystallise and harden during storage although they will thaw on heating.
Chloroprene is widely used because of its wide range of useful properties and reasonable price. Typical applications include belting, coated fabrics, cable jackets, seals and gaiters. Neoprene® is a registered trademark of DuPont Performance Elastomers.
urethane adhesives are useful for bonds that require flexibility for expansion, contraction, or other types of movement. They are ideal for bonding dissimilar materials that might have different thermal expansion or different flex properties.
Our urethane adhesives are very tough. They form impact-resistant bonds with high peel and shear strength. They are weather and chemical resistant and ideal for outdoor applications because they can handle harsh environmental conditions, whether on land, in the air, or at sea.
Moreover, our urethane adhesives have excellent abrasion resistance. They are optimal for bonding surfaces subject to frictional forces, such as concrete and wood flooring, and marine assemblies. We offer our urethane adhesives as two-component adhesives with a 1:1 mix ratio in 50ml. and 250ml. cartridges, and can supply larger sizes upon request.
A growing sensibility towards the environment and more stringent regulations in many countries have resulted in a strongly growing demand for environmentally friendly adhesive systems. Bayer MaterialScience provides a multitude of raw materials to satisfy this demand. There are waterbased polyurethane dispersions (Dispercoll U -range) as well as polychloroprene dispersions (Dispercoll C-range), that are offering a property profile that matches the ones of traditional, solvent-based systems. In some properties they even offer significant advantages.
Dispercoll U - Polyurethane dispersions for thermo-activatable shoe adhesives
Polyurethane dispersions of the Dispercoll U-range contain a high-molecular weight polyurethane dispersed in water. It de-crystallizes at temperatures of more than 50°C and becomes tacky. These dispersions can be formulated as one- or two-component systems. A two-component system formulated by adding a polyisocyanate like one of the Desmodur D-range results in a crosslinking and ultimately offers an increased durability, so adhesives last longer and offer a better mechanical resistance. This makes them particularly suitable for shoe sole applications.

The properties of the final adhesive can be further enhanced by the addition of polyisocyanates like the ones of the Desmodur D-range in a two-component system.
Pressure sensitive adhesives are adhesives that adhere to a variety of substrates when applied with pressure. The primary mode of bonding for a pressure sensitive adhesive is not chemical or mechanical but polar attraction to the substrate surface. Applied pressure is necessary in order to achieve sufficient wet-out onto the substrate surface to provide adequate adhesion.
These adhesives are synthetic, non-latex rubbers formulated with tackified resins, oils and antioxidants. They provide good to excellent initial tack and adhesion particularly to low-surface-energy materials such as plastics. They do not demonstrate good temperature resistance or resistance to solvents, sterilization, chemicals or ultraviolet rays. Some rubber-based adhesives are specially formulated to achieve exceptional adhesion in high-moisture applications.
